Otonom Teknoloji is an engineering and technology company that develops long-endurance unmanned aerial vehicle solutions. As the only Turkish company and one of only a few in the world specializing in lighter-than-air technology, it develops integrated solutions for numerous applications, including border security, reconnaissance-surveillance-intelligence, communication, environmental protection, search and rescue, and agriculture, using long-endurance unmanned systems.
Otonom Teknoloji develops and manufactures cost-effective, compact, and rapidly deployable aerial platforms. Its prominent products include lighter-than-air tethered balloon systems (aerostats) and tethered drone systems. Otonom Teknoloji products are designed for continuous operational use and feature low operating costs and high durability.
The payloads integrated into our ground-based unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) vary in their intended use depending on their characteristics, enabling them to meet the needs of different sectors. By carrying payloads such as cameras (night/day/multispectral), base stations, radars, signal intelligence, acoustic sensors, and communication relays from the ground to the mission altitude, we can provide surveillance/coverage of a wider area.
In the communications sector, it is envisioned that the base station integrated into our products will be raised to a certain altitude, and thanks to this high-altitude advantage, it will replace numerous base station towers. Abroad, the use of balloon (aerostat) systems for communications is becoming increasingly common. According to research by an American aerostat designer and manufacturer, a balloon system carrying a base station at an altitude of 240 meters can provide coverage equivalent to 15 base station towers while incurring 60% lower operating costs. It is believed that carrying 5G base stations by aerostat systems instead of towers is a more cost-effective solution, especially in unserved areas or underserved areas where quality coverage cannot be provided.
Similarly, we believe that integrating a temporary/mobile base station application onto a drone (also used in the dronecell application) can make it ground-based, and that its use would be beneficial, especially in areas where short-term gatherings occur and capacity is suddenly insufficient (concert venues, rallies, areas with heavy traffic) or in regions where infrastructure becomes inadequate due to disasters. This application area is also suitable for our compact (small-sized and easy to install) balloon systems. Both drone and balloon systems are increasingly being used abroad, both in post-disaster situations and during social events.
